![]() Welcome to the web site for The Omega Concern™. We are a company doing business in the online 3D virtual world known as Second Life® The purpose of this site is to educate our customers (and others!) and to host online User Manuals for the products we create in-world, and How Tos for our products and for living in Second Life in general that may be useful to many members of a very rapidly growing world. You can also visit our main store in-world via SLURL: The Omega Concern™ Up-to-date information about Second Life, the status of our beloved grid and other happenings can be read about and commented on at the Linden Lab® official blog Those who wish to be affiliate vendors should read this: Vendors If you've come to this page looking for Omega Combat System (OCS) information and information on our RP sim for it in Fulda Gap, you can read up about what kind of dystopian playground we've dreamed up here: Fulda Gap and details about the OCS HUD itself here: OCS HUD Manual The State of April I am sorry to announce that my product output, including updates to products affected by Havok™ 4 will be delayed. I am trying to cope with and overcome a serious illness, and while you may see me logged in, odds are very good that I'm either idle or simply in no state to be working on anything. I apologize if I don't reply to IMs. I hope for this to pass sooner rather than later, but I felt I should open up about a situation in my private life which is having a very negative effect on my professional life. -April Havok™ 4... The new physics engine has been deployed across the main grid, and people are now noticing that some things don't work quite like they used to, and others don't work at all. I am aware of the issues the new physics engine causes for many popular weapon modules, and have been for some time. Why no updates ready to roll off the servers on the same day of release? For a couple of reasons. First, some things we used to be able to do on the old system simply do not work anymore, and there is no workaround to achieve the same function. Specifically, I'm talking about physics-based attacks that land avatars at -2 billion meters on the Z-axis, and push orbiters that reach velocities of over 100,000 meters per second. The avatar maximum velocity is effectively capped at 128 meters per second. My back-of-the-envelope calculation says that it would take about 194 days to get an avatar 2 billion meters away. Are there nasty, evil attacks that work in Havok™ 4? Yes, there are, and they have been known for about two months. I however expect them to be patched and closed, as we have been promised updates and fixes for the forseeable future, and many eyes are on the behaviors of this new engine. To release something and have it broken within a week seems pointless. I would much rather wait a short time before introducing functions that may very well be nixed in the next rolling restart. Additionally, it's my impression from what I have seen that Linden Lab® is now frowning on systems that could be construed as a way to simply harass other users, where in the past they have turned a blind eye. As they do hold the keys to the kingdom, so to speak, I don't feel comfortable doing things that could bring negative consequences to myself, the business, or my customers. Be a little patient, I am still working on new toys. :) -April ![]() Second Life® and Linden Lab® are registered trademarks of Linden Research, Inc. No infringement is intended.
